A Will to Win: Mace’ Expeditions in facing obstacles

Kathrina Villamorel

Ask Mace, how can she managed to play a very good role as a talented sixteen year old girl and how can she be good in handling three competitions at a time?

Growing up as a child, it was full filling but never easy, her situation at home is not that good as she will describe but she gets to somewhat be happy because she  manage to learn things herself, starting from just a ‘bored lang’ to ‘naging hobby ko na eh’ real quick, she learned how to be a good dancer and singer, not just that, she also lead her classmates whenever there is a contest.

“ Ang talented, alam mo yun, yung maiinggit ka nalang kasi ang ganda tas magaling sumayaw at kumanta, maputi, marunong mag piano, mabait at nag aaral ng mabuti, diba?,” Tiffanie says, one of Mace’ classmates.

Every year, it will always be blood, sweat and tears for Mace as she struggles in leading her classmate in every competition that they will be joining, but even though that she chose to continue and decided to fight.

“ Syempre aaminin ko, sa sobrang hirap, I thought of actually quitting, but then I remember yung mga taong umaasa sa’akin so I decided to fight till the end.” Mace says.

True to her wishes, Mace team in Song translation won as the champion in the Book Week Festival 2019 last November 29, she also win as the best conductor in Kantata that was also one of the contest that she joined.

“ Natutuwa, sobra pa sa sobra, kahit hindi nanalo yung section naming sa speech choir, ang importante is ginawa naming yung best naming,” she added.

With her friends and classmate as her inspiration, Mace’ faiths in everything never go, even though she experience different obstacles and problems, she thought to let them know that she can do it, and she will continue doing it.

“ Simple lang naman ang sagot eh, at hindi ako nahihiyang sabihin sa lahat, na no matter what you do, there will always be a reason to win, and that reason? It’s because you know to yourself that it is not just for you, that it is not just only you who will be happy, but the people around you, and in that moment, you will realize, that even though you didn’t win, it will be worth it.” -Mace
