“Though so many sports to play, Why play chess, Rod?”

At age eight, He already knows how to play board games like chess, a sport he learns from his idol— Omar Pramis which is also his father who tought and inspire Rod to continue his journey in playing Chess.

Rod Vincent Pramis, is a Grade 10 student in Quezon National High School majoring in Journalism had always have been passionate in playing chess. It was also his hobby since he was a child.          He already joined different tournament with Chess since Grade 4 and estimatedly over 100 match that are mostly a win, and just

this November 8, he competed for theCluster Meet and win it with an opening of ‘ Hyper Accelerated Dragon, Modern’.

Hyper Accelerated Dragon Modern or Accelerated Fianchetto is a chess opening variation of the Sicilian Defense that begins with the moves: e4 c5 Nf3 Nc6 d4 cxd4 Nxd4 g6. It is Rod’s main most trusted technique/strategy to win the provincial meet.            However, beside the fact, that he already joined so many contest and even won some of it, Rod’s road to becoming a better chess player doesn’t seem so easy. He faces different struggles in his studies as an SPJ student due to his schedules but then he didn’t stop to achieve what he wants and what his father wants and encourage aspiring chess player to train well and never quit.

“Taasan lagi ang confidence at kapag nasa board game ikaw lang ang malakas, tapos pag tapos na yung game, manalo man o matalo, always stay humble,” Rod said.            Due to his determination, he won the provincial meet and was expected to compete and represent Quezon in the upcoming Cluster Meet this December, indeed, Rod is already making his Road to his and his father’s dream¬— to take part in in STACAA and have a scholarship for his studies.
